Speaking at the Free From Festival Reminded Me Why This Matters

I became a Nutritional Therapist because I wanted answers. After years of struggling with my own health, I realised that simply masking symptoms was never going to be enough. I wanted to understand why my body was struggling, what was causing my digestive issues, and how I could truly heal from the inside out.

I began searching for answers everywhere I could, in research papers, nutrition books, scientific studies, and through the changes I experienced when I transformed my own diet and lifestyle. What started as a personal health journey eventually became my passion and career.

Living with Coeliac Disease and Chronic Digestive Symptoms

At 18, I was diagnosed with Coeliac Disease and immediately adopted a strict gluten-free diet. While removing gluten was essential for my health, it didn’t magically solve everything.

Despite following the advice I had been given, I continued to struggle with ongoing digestive symptoms every single day. My late teens and early twenties were filled with doctors’ appointments, pain, frustration, and exhaustion. I often had to cancel social plans because I simply didn’t feel well enough to go out, and there were periods where my health completely took over my life.

Like so many people dealing with chronic digestive issues, I felt trapped in a cycle of temporary fixes. The only way I could sometimes cope with the pain was through strong painkillers, but deep down I knew that wasn’t addressing the root cause of what was happening in my body.

Why Gut Health Matters More Than Ever

One of the biggest turning points for me was realising how common digestive issues have become. During a recent talk, I asked the audience how many people suffered with digestive symptoms on a daily basis, and around 90% of the room raised their hands.

It was staggering to see, but honestly, it didn’t surprise me.

Bloating, IBS symptoms, abdominal pain, reflux, constipation, food intolerances, fatigue, and poor gut health are affecting more people than ever before. Yet so many individuals are told their symptoms are “normal” or something they simply have to live with.

I know first-hand how much digestive problems can impact every area of life — your confidence, energy levels, relationships, work, mental wellbeing, and ability to enjoy everyday moments.

Finding the Root Cause of Digestive Problems

The biggest lesson my own health journey taught me is that symptoms are often signals, not the root problem itself.

Understanding the root cause of digestive symptoms is the first and most important step toward improving health. Whether symptoms are linked to inflammation, stress, food intolerances, gut imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, or lifestyle factors, identifying the underlying cause allows the body to begin healing properly.

This is what led me to study nutritional therapy and evidence-based nutrition in greater depth. I became fascinated by the connection between nutrition, lifestyle, gut health, and overall wellbeing. The more I learned, the more I understood that the body has an incredible ability to rebalance and recover when given the right support.

How Nutrition and Lifestyle Changes Changed My Health

Through targeted nutrition, lifestyle changes, stress management, and supporting my gut health naturally, I began to notice significant improvements in my symptoms, energy, and overall quality of life.

For the first time in years, I felt like I was working with my body instead of fighting against it.

That experience completely changed the direction of my life and inspired me to help others who are struggling with the same issues.

Supporting Others Through Nutritional Therapy

Today, as a Nutritional Therapist, I support people experiencing digestive symptoms such as:

  • Bloating and abdominal discomfort

  • IBS and gut health concerns

  • Food intolerances and sensitivities

  • Fatigue and low energy

  • Digestive pain and inflammation

  • Poor digestion and irregular bowel habits

My goal is to help people feel heard, understood, and supported while identifying the underlying causes of their symptoms.

Too often, people are left feeling dismissed or frustrated after years of searching for answers. I know how isolating that can feel because I have lived through it myself.

Taking Back Control of Your Health

Healing isn’t about finding a quick fix. It’s about understanding your body, supporting it with the right nutrition and lifestyle choices, and creating sustainable changes that improve long-term health.

I truly believe that when we address the root cause of symptoms rather than simply masking them, we give the body the opportunity to function the way it was designed to.

My mission is to help people take back control of their health, improve their digestive wellbeing naturally, and feel empowered in their journey toward better health.
